The resort was named after the Paraw regatta Festival (the oldest Paraw Sailing competition in Asia and the biggest in the Philippines) because it originated firstly along the shorelines of Iloilo Paraw Beach Resort. It was later on moved to Villa Bay-bay as what we are witnessing today.
THE PARAW
Ilonggos celebrate the Paraw Regatta festival race starting in 1973 to preserve the historic value of the paraws. The paraw is a native-style outrigger sailing boat constructed from wood and bamboo, and is comprised of a single hull flanked by two outriggers for stability.
One of the goals of the Paraw Regatta festival is to educate people especially the younger generation to look back and take pride in these native sail boats used for over a hundred years now. You see, Iloilo is home to the best seafarers in the world.
Among us Ilonggos, the Paraw Regatta is a much-awaited festival that celebrates the skills of paraw sailors and shares the spirit and culture to participants, guests, and tourists.
However, Paraw is not just a festival but also a way of life of the Ilonggos.
Sails of the paraw waving in the breeze symbolize the journey on which we embark together - into sunlight. A journey that could nonetheless be turbulent at times because such is the nature of the sea but we hold on, steadfast like the renowned paraw sailors.
The sailing of the paraws is a moment rich with cultural meaning, imbued with Filipino tradition that we hope we can recover and celebrate again after years of darkness.

THE STORY BEHIND ILOILO PARAW BEACH RESORT
Iloilo Paraw Resort was born out of a noble aspiration of one young entrepreneur to provide an oasis or a place of respite for families of tired souls living around the lowly communities in the Calumpang area who work really hard everyday to earn their daily keep and survive the rigors of life. Most resorts are in the vicinity are not really fit for families so the owners built amenities that all the members of the family would be able to enjoy.
The owners also realized that the shorelines where the resort was located was the original venue of the oldest and biggest sailing event in the country, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta. This is one unique feature of the resort thus it took on the name Iloilo Paraw Resort, to pay homage to the said traditional sailing event and the fisherfolks or those living in the coastal areas who earn their living from the sea. The owners also would like people to experience Paraw through its aesthetics, food, service and other amenities.
Over the years, Iloilo Paraw Resort has served a varied clientele, from families, to young groups of friends, catered to social celebrations, seminars, workshops and other events but the pandemic has adversely affected the tourism industry that includes the resort. To be able to survive and continue its operations, Iloilo Paraw has taken on partners to manage or operate its food, café and drinks, rooms and other services/facilities. The owners and partners agree that the best way to go on about the achieving the business’s objectives is to rebrand, streamline its products and services, improve overall operations and work on being able to deliver the best customer experience.
